GENIVI has accelerated automotive software development and provides its members and the automotive ecosystem access to develop and share its latest open source and reusable in-vehicle infotainment and car connectivity technologies.
There are a number of GENIVI technical deliverables that benefit the entire industry and at the core is the GENIVI Development Platform (GDP), an open source automotive development platform where prototypes and innovative IVI and connected vehicle solutions can be rapidly developed and tested in an open community. Other technical deliverables incorporated in the GDP are individual software components, standard interfaces/APIs, and a flexible technical architecture.
The GDP serves as an essential tool allowing a broad base of developers to participate in open source development that produces innovative code for adoption in commercial solutions. The GDP provides an "automotive context" to assist with testing, prototyping, enhancing and deploying IVI and connected car software. The GDP can be built in a few hours on a variety of different automotive hardware boards or in a virtualized hardware environment called QEMU.
