Open Global Community
GENIVI is a collaborative community of more than 140 organizations comprised of automakers and their suppliers driving the broad adoption of open source in-Vehicle (IVI) software and open technology for the connected car.
GENIVI has successfully introduced Linux and open source software to the automotive industry through a community-based development model. This open source approach and the work produced by the GENIVI community have provided automakers and their suppliers with a flexible architecture allowing them to choose their preferred solutions to meet consumer needs.
A fully open community of code development projects (at projects.genivi.org/wiki) is operated by GENIVI
Open Community of Code Projects
GENIVI hosts a growing number of open source code projects on GitHub (www.github.com/genivi) and invites both GENIVI members and non-members to host and to develop automotive software and tooling that helps automakers manage the growing cost and complexity of IVI and connected car software solutions.
Code within a project is enhanced by contributors and committed to the project's code base through one or more maintainers. Tooling, contribution models, and the core processes used in projects are widely adopted as best practices in the open source community.
GENIVI employs a community manager to help individual projects be successful and to track project community health. Governance of the community is provided by a combination of GENIVI Alliance technical leaders and its governing board of directors.
